Unique Trail Running experience through the Picos de Europa Ring. Crossing the 3 massifs of the Picos de Europa running and passing emblematic places of the Cantabrian Mountains is an activity in which each step achieves a reward.
This trail running trip through the Picos de Europa Ring will be done in 4 stages with an average daily distance of 27 kilometers and average gain of 4,000 meters accumulated to complete the 115 kilometers and 17,000 accumulated meters.
The 4 stages of trail running through the Picos Ring will begin in Posada de Valdeón and will stop in Sotres, Poncebos and the Vegarredonda hut passing the trail entirely within the Picos de Europa National Park.
The Picos de Europa National Park is the first area that was protected in Spain. Back in 1918, King Alfonso XIII created the Covadonga Mountain National Park and our intention is to run entirety. We will take appropriate measures to protect this unique environment!
Our stages of trail running through the Picos de Europa Ring will take us to run through three Spanish provinces. We will leave the Posada de Valdeón and after passing Collado Jermoso we will cross to Cantabria, passing by the Verónica Cabin, and Áliva to reach the Vega de Sotres and through the Jidiellu Canal to cross the Ándara massif and reach Sotres in Asturias.
Once in Asturias we will move through unique places such as the Urrieles massif, the Jou de los Cabrones or Bulnes hut. In one of the stages we will walk along the Cares route to deviate and ascend the mythical Canal de Trea that will take us to the lakes of Covadonga.
In addition, the route will be led by Mountain Guides specialized in Trail Running who will help us to progress and improve both our technical ascent and descent techniques in the hard limestone terrain of Picos de Europa. Our luggage will be transferred from one point to another to facilitate progression.
